Greenleaf Academy
Certificate Program
The Greenleaf Academy of the Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership offers three courses in its Certificate Program. The courses address the foundations of servant leadership; applying the key practices of servant-leaders; and leadership in servant-institutions. Classes are taught by Greenleaf Academy faculty through teleconferences, e-mail, the use of a wiki, and other techniques. Courses may be taken in any sequence. There are no prerequisites for any course. However, it is recommended that a participant who is new to servant leadership will benefit most by taking the courses in the following order: foundations, key practices, and leading servant-institutions.
The Foundations of Servant Leadership
Requirements
To receive a Certificate in the Foundations of Servant Leadership, the participant must:
- Read all assigned material
- Write a short paper (8-12 pages reflecting the learning, knowledge and insights that merit the certificate)
- Participate in telephone conference calls (approx. 5 telephone conference calls lasting 1.5 hours each) with faculty members and other participants
- Participate in discussions using the Wiki
Applying the Key Practices of Servant Leadership
Requirements
To receive a Certificate in Applying the Key Practices of Servant Leadership, the participant must:
- Read all assigned required material on listening and developing your colleagues
- Undertake a project during which the participant uses listening skills or survey instruments to learn about and report on the needs of colleagues or customers
- Write a short paper (8-12 pages reflecting learning, knowledge and insights that merit the certificate)
- Participate in telephone conference calls (approx. 5 telephone conference calls lasting 1.5 hours each) with faculty members and other participants
- Participate in discussions using the Wiki
Leading Servant-Institutions
Requirements
To receive a Certificate in Leading Servant-Institutions, the participant must:
- Read all assigned material on the characteristics of servant-institutions and leading a servant-institution
- Undertake a project in which (a) the participant identifies and meets a need of customers, business partners, or communities affected by the institution at which the participant works, or (b) the participant identifies a need of a customer, business partner, or community and works with the institution that affects them in order to meet the identified need
- Write a short paper (8-12 pages reflecting learning, knowledge and insights that merit the certificate)
- Participate in telephone conference calls with faculty members and other participants
- Approximately 5 telephone conference calls lasting 1.5 hours each
Certificate of Completion
Each participant who satisfactorily completes the requirements will receive a certificate of completion for the course. Academic credit will not be awarded for the course, which is for personal growth and understanding. The certificate is awarded based on the completion of the specified requirements listed under each course. The certificate will be mailed to the participant. All participants who satisfactorily complete a course will be acknowledged at the Greenleaf Center’s Annual International Conference.
Tuition
The tuition is $375 per course. The cost of the required books is included in this fee, but not the cost of any optional book(s), which participants can order from the Greenleaf Center or a bookstore, after making their selection.
Discounts on Greenleaf Center Events
Academy participants will receive a 10% discount on the registration fees for one Greenleaf Annual International Conference or one Greenleaf Retreat, for each course that they satisfactorily complete.
